Spelling out the dangers of plastic in the environment

An international expert in marine debris has spoken directly to the Plymouth public about the “problems and potential solutions” of plastic in the environment.
With the dramatic backdrop of an enormous fish tank at the National Marine Aquarium, professor Richard Thompson addressed an audience about the worldwide problem surrounding marine plastic and its consequences on future generations.
Prof Thompson, a professor of marine biology at Plymouth University, said: “We’ve shown that approaching 700 species are encountering marine debris and a number of them are considered threatened or near threatened in terms of conservation status. (Plymouthherald.co.uk, 25/05/15)
